Guwahati: The Sixteenth Assam Legislative Assembly will convene for its upcoming Budget Session starting July 6 and running through July 31. The session schedule, released by the Assembly Secretariat, marks July 10 as the date for the presentation of the state budget for the 2026-27 financial year.
Opening day activities include routine legislative business, such as obituary references and the introduction of government bills. Following the budget presentation, lawmakers will participate in a three-day general discussion from July 13 to July 15 to debate policy initiatives and expenditure proposals. The government views this period as a vital opportunity to outline its fiscal roadmap, noting the session will play a "significant role in shaping Assam's economic priorities, governance strategy and development trajectory for the year ahead."
A recess is scheduled from July 16 to July 21, allowing Departmentally Related Standing Committees to scrutinize specific grants. The House reconvenes on July 22 to vote on these demands, followed by the expected passage of the Assam Appropriation Bill on July 23. The final portion of the month-long session will focus on private members' resolutions and additional government legislative business.
