Assam Authorities Burn Millions in Seized Narcotics

Guwahati: Barpeta police set fire to a massive haul of drugs on July 12. The contraband went up in smoke at the Barpeta Police Reserve Playground. Officials valued the destroyed stash at over Rs 5.16 crore.

The pile included 1,068 grams of heroin, 133 kg of ganja, 58,217 Yaba tablets, 494 capsules, and 123 bottles of cough syrup. Police seized these items during various busts across the district. A court-approved committee oversaw the entire disposal operation.

Barpeta Deputy Commissioner Nabadeep Pathak and In-Charge Superintendent of Police Samiran Baishya attended the event. Officials from the Excise Department stood by as the flames consumed the evidence. Authorities promised to keep fighting the local drug trade. They stated they are committed to "intensifying the crackdown on drug trafficking and ensuring the safe disposal of seized narcotic substances in accordance with legal procedure."
