Guwahati: The Asam Sahitya Sabha plans to honor the late Zubeen Garg with the Sangeet Sudhakar title. General Secretary Debojit Bora announced the decision Sunday in Guwahati. The executive committee approved the move after a vote at the Panchratna-Guwahati session. The group wants to celebrate the man who defined a generation.
Garg built a career spanning thirty years. He released his debut album Anamika in the early 1990s. He later became a force in acting, composing, and filmmaking. The organization formally told his family, including Garima Saikia Garg, about the honor on July 7.
The group will hold the ceremony on July 30 at the Sangeetacharya Lakshmiram Barua Sadan. The event includes a seminar and a cultural show. The Sabha plans to translate his lyrics into English, Hindi, and Bengali to broaden his reach. They will also collect research papers into a new book.
The organization views him as the "Voice of Assam" for his work across thousands of songs. Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami will present the award during the formal event. This move marks a lasting tribute to one of the state's most iconic artists.
