Arunachal Pradesh Prepares for Rajya Sabha Election on June 18

Itanagar: Chief Electoral Officer Pawan Kumar Sain convened a high-level meeting in Itanagar to finalize preparations for the upcoming biennial election for the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Arunachal Pradesh. The election is scheduled for June 18, as the term of the current representative expires on June 23.

The electoral timeline begins June 1 with the official notification. Candidates have until June 8 to submit their nomination papers, followed by a scrutiny process on June 9. The deadline for candidates to withdraw from the race is June 11. Voting will take place from 9 am to 4 pm on June 18, and counting will commence at 5 pm that same evening.

Officials have designated the Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly as the Returning Officer, with the Deputy Secretary serving as the Assistant Returning Officer. Both roles will be officially confirmed in the Extraordinary Gazette on June 1. Staff will undergo a comprehensive training session on June 5, which includes a mock drill at the Legislative Assembly complex to ensure all procedures are understood.

Security and transparency measures are a priority for this election. The process will feature live webcasting, and all proceedings will be recorded for submission to the Election Commission. Voters must use specific violet sketch pens to mark their ballots. Additionally, the Information and Public Relations Department will manage public awareness campaigns regarding candidate backgrounds to maintain full transparency throughout the voting process.
