Itanagar: The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for Arunachal Pradesh, warning of widespread heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning starting May 24. This severe weather pattern is expected to affect the region over the next five days, with conditions intensifying in the central and eastern districts.

An orange alert is in effect for Upper Siang, Siang, and parts of West Siang. Residents in these areas should prepare for heavy to very heavy rain. Meanwhile, a yellow alert covers adjoining districts including East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Shi-Yomi, and Upper Subansiri. Additional western and southern regions, such as Papum Pare and Kurung Kumey, are also bracing for thunderstorm activity.

While the weather should begin to improve by Monday, intermittent rain will persist through May 26 under continued yellow alerts for most districts. Conditions are expected to stabilize by May 27, leaving only isolated light rain. Officials have warned people in low-lying and vulnerable areas to remain cautious as the heavy rainfall could trigger waterlogging, landslides, and flash floods. Road connectivity may also face disruptions, and authorities in high-risk zones are currently preparing emergency response plans.
