Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik has formally requested that the central government adopt a specialized development framework for hill states. During a meeting with Dr. Joram Aniya at Lok Bhavan in Itanagar on Friday, May 15, Parnaik argued that Arunachal Pradesh cannot be evaluated using the same standard metrics applied to plains regions.
The Governor emphasized that the state's difficult terrain, sparse population, strategic border location, and immense cultural diversity necessitate policy interventions tailored specifically to its needs. He highlighted that the region holds significant developmental potential in areas such as hydropower, tourism, environmental conservation, and the preservation of its rich cultural heritage.
Parnaik stressed that recognizing these geographical and demographic realities is essential for fostering balanced growth in sensitive border areas. During the discussion, the Governor also congratulated Dr. Aniya on her recent appointment to NITI Aayog. He expressed confidence that her leadership would promote inclusive, people-centric policymaking that benefits both the national agenda and the specific progress of Arunachal Pradesh.
