Itanagar: East Siang authorities shut down littering along the highway from Raneghat to Pongging Viewpoint. The order takes effect immediately. It stays in place until further notice.

Mebo Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nancy Yirang issued the mandate on June 18. This stretch is a magnet for picnics, cycling, and long drives. Indiscriminate dumping of food packets, bottles, and construction debris triggered the move. The administration cited concerns over environmental pollution and public nuisance.

Drivers must keep trash inside their vehicles. Use only designated collection points. The order states: "The indiscriminate dumping of garbage, plastic waste, bottles, food packets, construction debris and other refuse along the highway has led to environmental pollution, public nuisance and degradation of the area's natural beauty."

Local police, panchayat members, and the Eco-Clean Mebo Mission will patrol the route. They plan to run awareness campaigns across the sub-division. Anyone caught breaking the rules faces fines and legal prosecution.
