Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu urged citizens to promote unity and universal brotherhood on September 11. He marked the anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s 1893 speech at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago. Khandu claimed the monk’s message of viewing the world as a single family remains vital today.
Vivekananda introduced the global stage to the Indian concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The Chief Minister noted that the monk’s teachings focus on respecting diverse paths rather than erasing differences. He believes this approach ensures peaceful coexistence.
“May we keep alive this spirit of India, one that celebrates diversity, and recognises the oneness of humanity,” Khandu posted online. He also extended his greetings to the public for Universal Brotherhood Day.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein added his own tribute to the monk. Mein stated that the message of harmony continues to inspire the nation. September 11 now serves as an annual reminder of the Chicago address, which brought international recognition to India’s spiritual traditions through a focus on tolerance and acceptance.
