Itanagar: Gumin Mize, a prominent anti-drug activist and president of the Arunachal Pradesh Anti-Drug Warriors, was arrested in East Siang district on Thursday. Pasighat Women Police Station personnel took Mize into custody around 2 pm. A local court subsequently remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody as the investigation proceeds.

The arrest follows an FIR filed by a woman who sought Mize’s help in April to secure rehabilitation treatment for her husband. According to the complaint, Mize and his organization facilitated the husband's admission to a center. The woman alleges that on April 29, Mize drove her to an isolated location and sexually assaulted her. She further claims that he brandished a pistol to threaten her and later used his position to pressure her regarding her husband’s release from the facility.

Police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those covering rape, sexual harassment, and criminal intimidation, alongside charges under the Arms Act. East Siang Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba confirmed the arrest, though authorities have provided few additional details regarding the ongoing probe.

Procedural concerns have emerged following reports that Mize was present in the courtroom while the survivor provided her statement to a magistrate. Critics have questioned whether adequate safeguards were in place, noting that the situation may have prevented the complainant from testifying without fear. When asked about these concerns, officials stated that "the investigation remains ongoing" and have not yet issued a formal response.
