Itanagar: An Indian Army truck flew off a mountain road Friday afternoon. The vehicle veered off National Highway 13 near Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh and tumbled into a deep gorge. Three soldiers were inside. The truck belonged to the 18 Sikh Light Infantry.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. The driver lost control on a steep turn. The heavy vehicle smashed through the chain-link fence of the 30th Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal campus before dropping down the hillside. The impact destroyed the truck.
Rescuers arrived fast. The Rapid Rescue Team of the 30th Battalion pulled the men from the wreck. Medics rushed them to local facilities. One Subedar, identified as Surendra Singh, died at the Dirang Community Health Centre. The other two survivors are stable in nearby hospitals.
The military has not issued a formal statement on the incident. Lieutenant Colonel Athul Sreedharan, Chief PRO for the Ministry of Defence in Tezpur, was not immediately available for comment. Officials reported that the "two injured soldiers are undergoing treatment at Bomdila District Hospital and the Dirang CHC" as medical teams monitor their progress.
