Army escorts students to school following blockade

Imphal: Army troops stepped in Monday morning to haul students to class. A blockade by Kuki groups near Kanto Sabal forced the move. Regular buses cannot reach the school at Leimakhong. Military vehicles stood in as shuttles.

Fifty-eight children piled into an Army Casspir and a truck at 7:30 am. A private school van joined the convoy, steered by a Nepali driver. The students attend Kendriya Vidyalaya. They come from various communities in the area.

The blockade near the Leimakhong Police Station continues to choke local travel. Civilians remain trapped by the stoppage. One source noted the situation serves as a "stark reflection of the continuing disruption caused by the road blockade." Children now rely on armed guards to reach their desks.
