Imphal: Armed attackers stormed the Kuki village of Thingkhongjang on Sunday, leaving two people wounded and several homes in ashes. The raid happened around 5:00 p.m. as most residents attended church services. The village sits near the Jiribam to Imphal railway line.

Bullets struck an eight-year-old girl and a 56-year-old woman in their left thighs. Troops from the 9 Sector Assam Rifles arrived quickly. They pulled the victims to safety before moving them to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal for medical care.

The attackers fled into the hills after lighting fires across the village. Local residents claimed fighters from the National Socialist Council of Nagalim and the Zeliangrong United Front carried out the assault with explosives and high-powered guns. Security officials have not confirmed which group led the charge.

Forces are now combing the area to track down the gunmen. Meanwhile, the Kuki Inpi slammed the violence. They issued a statement saying: "The Kuki Inpi called for an immediate and impartial investigation into the attack, urging the government to identify the perpetrators and strengthen security measures to prevent further violence."
