Anti-Narcotics Task Force Arrests Two in Shillong Drug Bust

Shillong: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force ambushed a drug deal in the Lumsurvey area on Monday. Officers caught two suspected traffickers during the raid. They identified the suspects as 21-year-old Sabina Begum and 40-year-old Viru Singh.

The operation netted 16.1 grams of suspected heroin hidden in a plastic soap box. Police also seized 47 vials of the drug and a mobile phone. Investigators now suspect the pair belongs to a larger criminal syndicate peddling drugs across Shillong.

Sadar Police Station registered a case under the NDPS Act. Authorities are currently tracing both forward and backward connections to map the wider network. The ANTF stated, "Three cases relating to contraband trafficking from the Lumsurvey area have been registered under the NDPS Act so far in 2026."

Seven people now sit in custody following recent stings in the same neighborhood. Most of those caught are from Assam. Officers have cleared out heavy amounts of heroin, syringes, and vials from the local streets during these recurring busts.
