ANCSU bars former president following bar vandalism claims

Kohima: The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) cut ties with former president Katho P Awomi this week. They banned him from all union events after he allegedly vandalized a Dimapur bar. The leadership wants him gone until legal proceedings finish.

The union released a statement saying Awomi previously held a position of trust and responsibility. He will not be invited, associated with, or engaged in any programme, activity or official function of ANCSU in any capacity, until such time as the matter is conclusively resolved through due process of law.

ANCSU leaders claimed the incident hurt the group's reputation. They insisted the move keeps their house in order. They also turned their sights on the city's booze trade. The union demanded that the Dimapur Police Commissioner shut down every bar and club selling alcohol in defiance of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act.

The union warned that officials must act now. Open violations of the law have created social problems for local students. If the police fail to clean up these businesses, the group promised to launch democratic protests to force the issue.
