Kohima: Home Minister Amit Shah wants a tighter grip on the nation's edges. During a police conference in New Delhi, he rolled out a plan for a quadrangular security grid. This system links border guards, state police, central agencies, and local residents. It covers everything from coastal zones to remote outposts.
Shah promised that India will soon own the most modern border infrastructure on the planet. He stated the government is currently developing a “Smart Border” system. The plan targets major threats: drone attacks, cybercrime, and smuggling. The Home Minister claims current efforts are far more effective than past half-measures.
Construction is already underway on a 1,610-km fence along the India-Myanmar border. The project costs 31,000 crore rupees. Officials hope this barrier will choke off illegal infiltration and radicalization. Shah credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with clearing out Naxalism and regional terrorism.
The government is also eyeing the population. A new Demography Mission will track abnormal growth in border areas, which Shah blames largely on infiltration. Meanwhile, the Vibrant Villages Programme aims to stop residents from moving away by boosting local jobs. Shah remains focused on the drug trade as well. He wants to wipe out the narcotics menace in the next three years.
