AL Hek Rules Out Shillong By-Poll Bid, Backs Sanbor Shullai

Shillong: Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek confirmed he is bowing out of the race for the Shillong parliamentary seat. Party leaders pushed him to run, but he refused due to other urgent obligations. Hek made the announcement after signaling his preference for South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai to take the spot instead.

"A·bachengode angkon Shillong Lok Sabha by-election-o susachina gita party-ni dilgiparang aganahachim indiba da·o dipet ango dingtang kamrang dongani gimin anga susana man·jawa ine aganchakaha," Hek told reporters. He stated he has already formally proposed Shullai to the party high command.

Final say rests with central leaders. The party will back whoever they pick. Hek insists there is no rush to finalize the ticket. With the election months away, he says three months is plenty of time to gear up. The vacancy follows the death of MP Ricky Andrew J Syngkon on February 19.
