Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front General Secretary Rafiqul Islam has leveled serious accusations against the Assam government regarding its recent land clearance operations. Islam claims the state's anti-encroachment efforts are designed to selectively target minority communities, creating a cycle of displacement for the poor.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a broader initiative aimed at reclaiming five lakh bighas of government land over the next five years. During a press briefing on June 16, Islam characterized this policy as a "dangerous conspiracy" aimed specifically at marginalized groups. He noted that previous evictions have already left numerous minority families homeless while failing to provide equitable land alternatives.

Islam argued that the government must adopt a more balanced approach to land administration. He warned that the current strategy threatens to deepen poverty and undermine the social and economic contributions of the minority population. The AIUDF leader urged state officials to ensure that all land laws and welfare policies are applied impartially, regardless of a citizen's religious background.
