Abandoned Bangladeshi Youth Seeks Repatriation After Being Stranded in India

Guwahati: A Bangladeshi man, identified as Deep Islam Sheikh, is currently in police custody in Assam after appearing before a local court to request help returning to his home country. The youth claimed he was lured into India by a broker named Ragbi with promises of employment, only to be abandoned at the Guwahati Railway Station.

After being left stranded without support, Sheikh attempted to find his way back to the border by traveling to Silchar. He eventually reached the Sribhumi district and presented himself at the District and Sessions Court on Kalibari Road to recount his experience. The court subsequently referred the matter to the District Legal Services Authority, which coordinated with the Sribhumi Sadar Police to take him into protective custody.

Authorities are now working through legal procedures to verify his background. The youth stated he is from the Barughuni area of the Gopalganj sub-division in Bangladesh, but officials noted he lacks identity documents. Consequently, his exact age and the specific route he used to enter India remain unconfirmed as the investigation continues.
