Guwahati: The All Assam Students' Union is demanding answers. President Utpal Sarma blasted Gauhati University for spending 2.08 crore rupees on a new VIP dining room, kitchen, and staff quarters. The project is already moving ahead. Contracts are signed.

Sarma pointed out the university faces a serious cash crunch. He argues the school should fix its academic budget before building luxury facilities. He shared the tender notice on social media to highlight the spending.

Sarma insists he supports growth. "I too desire the development of infrastructure at Gauhati University. There would be no objection even if Rs 10 crore were spent to build the world's best infrastructure, provided that there is no shortage of funds for expenditures on other academic activities of the university," he said.

He called the spending unfortunate. The union leader has already pushed the Assam Education Department to step in. He wants the state to audit the project and reorder the university's priorities.
