Imphal: The 52nd All Manipur Shumang Leela Festival officially kicked off at the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen in the Palace Compound of Imphal. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Vice-Chairman Khuraijam Loken inaugurated the event, which is organized by the Manipur State Kala Akademi. The festival serves as a tribute to the state's living heritage and its unique theatrical tradition.

Known as the people's theatre, Shumang Leela has long acted as a mirror for society and a vehicle for themes like morality, justice, and harmony. During the opening ceremony, Governor Bhalla encouraged performers to utilize the stage to foster reconciliation and bridge societal divisions. The event included the release of a festival souvenir and a ceremony honoring winners from the previous year.

This year, 27 troupes are competing in the festival. The lineup includes 14 women's groups and 13 men's groups who will showcase their skills throughout the program.
